West Ham United: Richard Keys shares what left David Moyes ‘furious’ in loss v Newcastle
Richard Keys has shared that David Moyes was left fuming after his West Ham side were not able to take a quick free-kick in the 4-3 defeat against Newcastle on 30 March.
According to Keys, Moyes was furious on the touchline after the earlier incident, which may have prompted referee Rob Jones to allow the quick-free kick which resulted in their second goal.
That Mohammed Kudus goal was shrouded in controversy and Fabian Schar had thrown himself to the floor after giving away the free-kick, and his cries for the game to be held were ignored by the official.
Speaking live on beIN SPORTS [as shared via X], Keys explained: “There was an incident earlier in that half where West Ham were denied the ability to take a free-kick quickly, and David Moyes was furious on the touchline.
“Maybe the protest found its way to the ref and he thought ‘I can’t do it again.’ I think nine times out of ten that is not allowed, but I would add, I’m glad it was.”
David Moyes fuming at West Ham controversy v Newcastle
While the clever free-kick was a highlight of the game for West Ham, sending them into the half-time break 2-1 up, there is plenty more to be frustrated about as far as Moyes is concerned with his side throwing the game away.
The shocking display late in the game which saw the Hammers concede three goals in the space of 13 minutes will likely see concerns increase once again over Moyes, with pressure lingering over whether he will remain at the London Stadium beyond this season.
Moyes’ decision to bring Kalvin Phillips on for Michail Antonio was bizarre and saw the Hammers lose any positive momentum or control they had over the game, with the blame for the collapse likely to fall on his shoulders.
Moyes’ situation at the London Stadium has been a hot topic of discussion since the 6-0 defeat to Arsenal and the news that the board had delayed contract talks, and this result will do his position no favours with the supporters.
