Peter Drury lauds the return of Angelo Ogbonna to the West Ham United starting line up

BT Sport commentator Peter Drury lauded the return of Angelo Ogbonna to the West Ham United starting line up, in Thursday evening’s UEFA Europa Conference League clash against Anderlecht.

Ogbonna returned to the West Ham United first team captaining the first XI for the third time in his career so far.

The central defender strutted across the backline and left Drury in awe of his beastly presence, Ogbonna needs a run of games to reassert himself in the Hammers squad.

Speaking during live commentary of the game on BT Sport 2 (17:47), Drury loved Ogbonna’s return to the West Ham starting lineup.

“A rare beast indeed,” exclaimed BT Sport commentator Drury.

Referring to the fact Ogbonna has been out of Moyes’ first team, the competition for starting places in the Hammers’ defence has never been higher.

Beast.

Ogbonna’s games at West Ham United will likely become more and more limited during this campaign and the next, he’s an ageing talent.

At 35-years-old it’s likely the Hammers will look for a younger, brighter talent to join their ranks, especially considering the ambitious moves made this summer.

His presence, however, will be needed in the hectic Premier League and European schedule, one the Hammers have been struggling to juggle.

The central defender’s current West Ham deal runs out in 2023, which may ultimately be the end of his career at the London Stadium, but he’s been a solid option to have over the last few seasons.

He was terrific at the start of the 2021/2022 campaign and was sorely missed after an unfortunate ACL injury kept him on the sidelines for countless months.

Nevertheless, Ogbonna can still be used as a sturdy, vital, beast in European fixtures and domestic cup competitions for Moyes.
