West Ham United: Jacob Steinberg furious after ‘appalling’ David Moyes decision v Arsenal

The Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg has slammed West Ham manager David Moyes for replacing Lucas Paqueta with Ben Johnson.

The defender was handed a start on the wing in the Premier League encounter with Arsenal on Sunday (11 February).

Star attacker Paqueta, who is currently sidelined with injury, missed out as the Hammers were smashed 6-0 by the Gunners.

“Appalling from West Ham,” Steinberg wrote on X. “No energy, so flat, no ambition. Ben Johnson is not a suitable replacement for Lucas Paqueta.”

West Ham thumped by Arsenal

The Hammers were completely outclassed by their London rivals, with Mikel Arteta’s men in superb form at the London Stadium.

Supporters of both clubs could not quite believe their eyes as the visitors stormed to a 4-0 lead at half-time, with two more goals added in the second half.

William Saliba, Bukayo Saka (two), Gabriel, Leandro Trossard and former Hammers captain Declan Rice were on the scoresheet in the rout in East London.

It was a disastrous 90 minutes for the hosts from start to finish, with David Moyes completely stunned at the performances of his players.

They will want to put this embarrassing defeat behind them as quickly as possible, with a trip to Nottingham Forest up next on Saturday (17 February).

For Arsenal, their stunning display keeps them well within reach of the number one spot in the Premier League table, even with fellow title chasers Liverpool and Manchester City both picking up wins on Saturday (10 February).
