West Ham United ace Lukasz Fabianski slammed by Sky Sports reporter for ‘real error’ v Liverpool

West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has been slammed by Sky Sports reporter Peter Smith for his failure to save Cody Gakpo’s goal for Liverpool in their meeting on Wednesday (26 April).

Smith noted that the Hammers number one “won’t be happy” with his efforts as the Reds attacker found the back of the net from range in the 18th minute of the Premier League clash.

Gakpo’s long-range strike came just six minutes after Lucas Paqueta had opened the scoring at the London Stadium.

“Fabianski surely won’t be happy being beaten in that manner – although credit to Gakpo who has a track record of scoring from distance,” said Smith, as quoted by Sky Sports.

“The real error was West Ham giving him the space to unleash from that position.”

Disappointed

Fabianski has been superb for the Hammers this season, with his presence really missed in between the sticks during his recent spell on the sidelines due to a facial injury.

But the Pole is now back on the pitch, and back doing what he does best, with several fantastic saves helping West Ham climb the ranks of the Premier League table.

But the goalkeeper will be disappointed with his efforts for Gakpo’s strike, not only because it was from well out, but also because it only just evaded his arms.

He has set extremely high standards for himself, and those standards mean he really should have kept out the strike, even though it was well hit by the Netherlands international.

West Ham fans will also be disappointed with their goalkeeper, but they will quickly forgive him as they realise just how important he has been for them, not only this season but for many years now.
