West Ham player ratings v Aston Villa: Mavropanos flops, Summerville stars
West Ham suffered a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Friday night.
The Hammers took the lead through an early Lucas Paqueta goal and dominated most of the game.
However, Villa capitalised on a brief purple patch in the game to score two quick-fire goals to seal the victory on 10 January at Villa Park.
Here are our player ratings from the game:
Lukasz Fabianski – 5
Made a few saves and it’s hard to attribute him to the concession of the goals.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6
Performed his role well and balanced his defensive and attacking responsibilities pretty well.
Konstantinos Mavropanos – 3
Failed to stop the cross that led to the goal and overall was a liability in defence for the Hammers.
Max Kilman – 5
While he was tidy in possession, he did make a few errors defensively and his positioning was a tad questionable.
Oliver Scarles – 6
An impressive attacking display from the youngster, although his decision making in the final third could have been better.
Tomas Soucek – 5
Imposed himself in midfield but did not get as involved in the build-up as he would’ve wanted
Edson Alvarez – 6
Made some crucial tackles and ensured that the Villa players did not have it all their way during the game.
Crysencio Summerville – 8
Looked lively down the right flank and set up Paqueta’s goal in what was an impressive attacking display.
Mohammed Kudus – 4
One of his worst performances of the season as he struggled to make anything happen in the final third.
Lucas Paqueta – 8
Deserved his goal and his all-round play was also impressive as he linked well with the players around him.
Niclas Fullkrug – 5
Had to be subbed off early but did not make much of an impact when he was on the field of play.

Substitutes
Danny Ings – 4
Made little to no impact off the bench as he struggled to find himself in positions to score.
Vladimir Coufal – 6
Was solid coming off the bench and completed each of his 27 attempted passes. [Sofascore]
Aaron Cresswell – 4
Didn’t have much time to do much off the bench and most of his passes were safe ones.
Carlos Soler – N/A
Touched the ball twice, out of which one was an attempt on goal which was blocked.
Luis Guilherme – N/A
Seemed to struggle to adapt to the pace of the game when he came on in the 85th minute.
In other West Ham news, sources claim the Hammers can now secure the services of a £40m player in January.
