West Ham forced into late change vs Tottenham in surprise Lukasz Fabianski news

West Ham are preparing to face off against Tottenham on Saturday.

Tottenham are set to clash with West Ham at the London Stadium on 13 September, in a second London derby of the season for Graham Potter’s side.

This comes off the back of a 3-0 win for West Ham over Nottingham Forest for the Irons, sparking life into their campaign in E20.

The good feeling around the claret and blue outfit was boosted when Lukasz Fabianski re-joined West Ham to become third-choice keeper at the Olympic Park.

With that being said, details around Fabianski have emerged less than an hour before the Spurs clash, which will certainly come as a surprise in East London.

Fabianski couldn’t keep out Kilman’s late header, but his obstruction by Wolves’ Chirewa saw the goal ruled out.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka drops out of West Ham squad vs Tottenham

In the shape of Alphonse Areola, West Ham have a backup keeper who is ready to go should Mads Hermansen need replacing.

As a result, it was no surprise that the Pole wasn’t initially named in the squad for the Hammers ahead of their clash against Thomas Frank’s side.

Now, the former Arsenal keeper has taken his place on the bench to face the Lilywhites after Aaron Wan-Bissaka dropped out.

Alasdair Gold reported on 13 September that a late change was required for Potter’s side, with the right-back dropping out and Fabianski coming in.

This now sees the home side have two keepers on their bench alongside another eight outfield options for the claret and blue outfit.

Lukasz Fabianski surprise name to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka

It is bizarre to see a defensive option drop out of the squad so late, especially to then be replaced by a third keeper in the squad.

Hammers fans will be keen to learn what issue Wan-Bissaka has picked up and why he has been forced out of the side so late on.

There will also be questions as to why Fabianski was the chosen option as a goalkeeper, given that Areola was already available from the dugout.

He will certainly add experience to the squad, but a younger outfield option may have benefited more from the chance to watch on from the bench.
