‘Pathetic’ – Many West Ham fans tear apart one player at FT v Newcastle: ‘Please release’

West Ham United got off to the perfect start against Newcastle on Sunday, going one goal to the good in less than five minutes.

In true Hammers fashion though, David Moyes’ men only kept that lead for a matter of minutes with Miguel Almiron firing home the equaliser.

Tomas Soucek gave the Irons the lead, only for Jonjo Shelvey to immediately equalise and that’s how it finished at St James’ Park – 2-2.

Aaron Cresswell was torn apart for his role in the goal, being beaten far too easily down the left-hand-side before the ball was put across to Almiron.

Moyes has been loyal to the left-back this season and has left Arthur Masuaku out in the cold for the majority of the campaign.

The defence at the London Stadium has been a real problem all season, and it has seen the Hammers struggling for survival with only a handful of games to play.

The 30-year-old can’t even say he has been on the top of his game this season. Cresswell is way down the pecking order in terms of WhoScored’s average match rating after his 26 Premier League appearances.

Cresswell only averages 1.4 tackles per game and a singular interception, which is nowhere near good enough from a full-back in a team that tends to be under high amounts of pressure.

Many West Ham fans tore Cresswell apart for his performance on Sunday, with one even claiming he should be released.
