Slavia Prague send Tomas Soucek message after West Ham star makes history vs Manchester United

West Ham ace Tomas Soucek made history in the 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Tuesday.

Soucek became the leading Czech goalscorer in the Premier League with his strike at the London Stadium on 11 February.

The Hammers star was level with former Liverpool, Aston Villa and Portsmouth icon Patrik Berger, but his 39 goals put him alone at the top.

The 30-year-old has featured in 217 matches in the English top-flight, but his latest appearance may well be the most historic.

What message did Slavia Prague sent to Soucek?

Soucek played 158 games for Slavia Prague before joining West Ham in 2020, initially on a loan deal.

He made that move permanent in the summer of the same year, but the Czech outfit are clearly still keeping in touch with their youth academy graduate.

Taking to X on 11 February to praise Soucek’s achievement, they said: “Day 2205 of becoming the top Czech goalscorer in the Prem

“Tomas Soucek made history while ruining haircuts in the process.

“We are so proud of you!”

How Soucek could prove crucial to West Ham’s survival bid

The Hammers need their defensive midfielder to step up with more goals in the latter stages of the campaign.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are 18th in the top-flight, five points from safety with 12 matches left to play before the league campaign concludes, a very precarious position to be in, with little time remaining.

It is absolutely pivotal that they start winning, and if the veteran can score some more in the final few weeks, it may be the difference between staying up and going down to the Championship.

Soucek’s stats in all competitions this season.

Soucek is a leader within the squad, and he needs to show that, if the Irons are to stay up and ensure that they remain in the division.

Relegation would be a disaster both on and off the pitch for the East London side, and the 87-cap international could play a crucial part in their survival hopes.

Soucek is brilliant in the air, so relying on his presence in the box from set pieces may be a useful tactic, that could help his team to stay where they belong, and avoid a dismal next campaign.

Hammers fans and Soucek’s supporters in his home country will hope that is the case, and that the E20 side are not relegated at the end of the season.
