‘Silva absolutely raging’ at Fulham star Leno for incident v West Ham – Savage

Robbie Savage says Bernd Leno was “dreadful” for Fulham in handing West Ham United a third goal scored by Lucas Paqueta at the London Stadium.

The Hammers took a crucial 3-1 lead during the second half of the all-London clash as Leno was closed down by substitute Danny Ings, allowing Paqueta a free shot into an empty net.

Graham Potter’s side hung on to win an entertaining spectacle 3-2, a much-needed return to winning ways in the new boss’ first Premier League match in charge.

“The change has worked, Graham Potter taking off Kudus and bringing on Danny Ings. Paqueta on the right puts it in with his left foot, it’s dreadful from Leno,” Savage said live on TNT Sports (14 January, 20:57).

“Marco Silva will be absolutely raging, they’ve given West Ham two goals.

“Total control, don’t know what the goalkeeper’s waiting for, work-rate from Danny Ings, Paqueta with the finish.”

West Ham secure crucial win over Fulham

West Ham will now be seeking to turn the tide under Potter following a hard-fought victory against Silva’s side, with a fortuitous edge to it through Fulham’s errors.

Fulham have been impressive across a large part of this season while the Hammers have shipped goals at will and looked fragmented during their short stint under Julen Lopetegui.

Despite surviving early pressure from the confident visitors, the unexpected two-goal lead stood the Irons in excellent stead, managing to navigate through a late surge from the Cottagers.

Another London contest takes place this weekend on home soil as Crystal Palace are the visitors on Saturday (18 January). The midweek victory takes Potter’s charges five points above Palace, who first face Leicester City on Wednesday night (15 January).

It remains to be seen how Tim Steidten and the board act in the transfer window, with incomings and outgoings remaining feasible in the coming weeks.
