Roy Keane takes swipe at Ian Wright live on air after West Ham United loss v Man United, argument breaks out

Roy Keane took a swipe at Ian Wright for his reaction to West Ham losing 3-1 to Manchester United in the FA Cup on Wednesday night.

David Moyes’ men were 1-0 up in the FA Cup fifth-round tie but missed a number of chances to build on their lead before a late flurry of Man United goals at Old Trafford dumped the Hammers out of the competition.

After the game, Wright defended West Ham’s performance but Keane was less forgiving.

After ripping into West Ham’s performance live on ITV1 on Wednesday night (1 March, 09:48pm), Keane aimed a dig at Wright and Joe Cole for not dishing out such a harsh verdict on the Hammers’ performance. He said: “The two lads are obviously delighted with West Ham’s performance.

“I’ve seen it all over the years. Honestly, it’s laughable.”

Wright laughed at what Keane said but then defended himself: “It’s nothing to do with being delighted with the performance. It’s just the chances…”

Keane interrupted, saying: “You get the chances but you have to take them.”

Wright said: “That’s what was going to happen with West Ham.”

Keane continued: “We saw Leicester here a couple of weeks ago and Man United do give teams chances. But if you don’t take them, you let them off the hook.

“That’s exactly what happens and we’ve seen it for the last 20 or 30 years.”

West Ham

Keane’s right

Why are people making excuses for West Ham?

Sure, Man United are having their best season in a long time while we’re in a Premier League relegation battle.

But this is why we’re slogging it out at the wrong end of the Premier League.

For all the good work the Hammers did at Old Trafford, they let themselves down massively through poor finishing and poor defending.

Nayef Aguerd and Michail Antonio summed up our performance.

Antonio missed a golden opportunity to score in each half. First, a one-on-one against David De Gea was massively wasted and in the second half, instead of squaring the ball to a teammate in the box, the Jamaica international shot at goal from a dumb angle.

And then Aguerd’s own goal was baffling, as well as his defending for Fred’s goal in stoppage-time.

Keane’s absolutely spot on to tear West Ham to shreds.

It doesn’t matter who the opposition is, you cannot do what the Irons did.
