Roshane Thomas: Moyes won’t be surprised if Soucek does not start v Everton

David Moyes may choose to rest Tomas Soucek for this Sunday’s clash between West Ham and Everton at Goodison Park, according to Roshane Thomas.

The Hammers will be looking to return to winning ways after going into the international break on a disappointing note with a loss to Brentford.

After the Everton clash, the Hammers take on Genk in the Europa League on Thursday.

In his mailbag, The Athletic’s Thomas, said, “It would not come as a surprise if Moyes rested Soucek at Everton, with one eye on the Europa League game at home against Belgium’s Genk on Thursday.

“Soucek played the full 90 minutes in both Czech Republic’s World Cup qualifiers last week against Wales and Belarus.”

Right move?

The Hammers sit in a good position in their Europa League group and are arguably favourites to win it.

In the league, after a good few weeks, they have tapered off and getting back to winning ways over the weekend is imperative.

Everton also started well, but have continued their good run of form and find themselves in the top six – a position where Moyes and West Ham would want to be in.

It’s still early days, but we don’t think the boss is in any position to rest a player of Soucek’s calibre for this one.

While he may not have started the season too well, he’s someone who could offer an attacking threat and be a menace from set pieces in both boxes.

The team looks much better with him than without him, and Moyes of all people will be aware of it.

He’s also rated very highly by coach Stuart Pearce who labelled him “sensational” in the buildup to Euro 2020. [Super 6]

We believe that Soucek must at least be given 60 minutes in this one and then withdrawn for Alex Kral if things are in control.

It remains to be seen what Moyes opts to do.
