Richard Keys hits out at what he saw in West Ham win vs Burnley – ‘It’s pointless’
Richard Keys has questioned the decision to consult VAR on Callum Wilson’s equaliser for West Ham against Burnley on Saturday.
Wilson netted the equaliser in West Ham’s 3-2 win over Burnley at the London Stadium on 8 November.
Wilson arrived at West Ham after leaving Newcastle United as a free agent over the summer, but has struggled to find his best form.
However, it was suggested that Wilson’s importance for Nuno Espirito Santo would grow after their win over Newcastle, and it seems that he’s finally shown his class for the Hammers.

Richard Keys brands VAR intervention ‘pointless’
Wilson headed home a loose ball from a Crysencio Summerville minutes before the half-time whistle.
VAR intervened to make sure that there was no offside in the build-up, but Keys remained unimpressed with the proceedings that followed.
Speaking on beIN Sports during the game, he said: “It’s pointless. They’re the same distance from the line. I don’t understand it.”
While the goal stood, Keys later took to X to question the accuracy of VAR’s methods.
He said: “We need to see these graphics directly in line – across the pitch – as we do in the CL. I don’t see the point of this. How can we be sure these are accurate?”
But given the season that West Ham have had, and now with back-to-back wins in the Premier League, most Hammers fans will pay little attention to how the goal was scored.
How did Callum Wilson perform vs Burnley?
Wilson was predicted to be essential to West Ham’s win over Burnley, and it’s safe to say that it was one of his best games in a Hammers shirt.
Indeed, the striker put on a complete attacking performance:
- He recorded 0.99 expected goals
- Wilson had two attempts on goal
- He made one key pass
The former Newcastle star also won 50 per cent of his aerial duels and made two recoveries, according to Sofascore.
There is no doubt that the game was played under conditions for the striker to thrive.
By its end, West Ham held just 43 per cent possession. This was similar to the win over the Magpies, which demonstrates that the Hammers are finally adopting Nuno’s counter-attacking principles.
All in all, the match was one with end-to-end action, with several attacking opportunities which enabled Wilson to show his class.
