Premier League release statement on West Ham vs Nottingham Forest controversy

West Ham have been left fuming by a second half call against Nottingham Forest.

Nuno Espirito Santo is under pressure at West Ham, but will have been happy with what he saw from his side in the first 45 at the London Stadium.

A Murillo own goal gave the hosts the lead just minutes after Alphonse Areola made a stunning save against Forest to keep the score at 0-0.

There was hope that the claret and blue outfit would kick on after the break, but a nightmare spell for Taty Castellanos on his West Ham debut has changed the tide.

The East London faithful have been left far from impressed, with one call summing up their luck in the Premier League this campaign.

Crysencio Summerville goal ruled out vs Nottingham Forest

Crysencio Summerville has been a bright spark for West Ham against Sean Dyche’s side, but hasn’t found the net for his troubles.

The Dutchman thought that he had given his side a 2-0 lead early on in the second half when he drilled home a low half volley.

Matz Sels had no chance as the Hammers man’s strike flew through bodies and into the back of the net at the London Stadium.

Much to the surprise of the claret and blue outfit, referee Tony Harrington was told by VAR to disallow the strike for offside.

Nuno wasn’t happy, but the Premier League have now provided clarification for the situation that left the Irons unhappy.

Premier League release statement during West Ham vs Forest

Nuno has since been booked for complaints towards the match officials after being left bewildered by multiple decisions on the night.

Many ironic cheers have come from the stands, summing up what supporters think of the calls made by Harrington so far.

There can be little complaint towards Summerville’s strike being ruled out, however, as Castellanos is clearly offside in the build-up.

The Premier League Match Centre account’s statement reads: “VAR checked the referee’s call of goal – and established that Castellanos was in an offside position in the build-up and recommended that the goal was disallowed.

This won’t help the annoyance of the claret and blue faithful, but it does provide much-needed insight that was missing on the terraces against the Reds.
