Premier League make announcement about West Ham v Bournemouth incident

West Ham United went 1-0 down against Bournemouth in the first half at the London Stadium, with the Premier League making a swift announcement.

Graham Potter’s team welcomed Andoni Iraola’s side on Saturday (5 April), with Evanilson finding the back of the net in the 38th minute.

While there were question marks around whether the goal should’ve stood, VAR subsequently confirmed the on-field referee’s decision.

The Hammers are coming off a 1-0 loss against Wolves at Molineux, and another loss would be detrimental for the hosts.

Evanilson onside after scoring in West Ham v Bournemouth

VAR checked Evanilson’s goal for a possible offside against the Irons at the London Stadium, according to the Premier League.

Stockley Park examined whether the Brazilian forward’s strike should’ve been ruled out but eventually stuck with the on-field decision.

Max Kilman was seen to be ahead of the Cherries’ striker before the goal was scored after VAR drew lines to come to a conclusion.

Premier League Match Centre wrote on X (5 April): “The referee’s call of goal was checked and confirmed by VAR — with Evanilson in an onside position.”

Potter frustrated with defending at London Stadium v Bournemouth

Potter’s team’s prospects in the Premier League don’t look good as they sit 16th in the Premier League before the full-time whistle against Bournemouth.

The English manager has failed to bring the best out of the squad at his disposal since being appointed by David Sullivan.

Julen Lopetegui’s time at the London Stadium was disastrous, but the former Chelsea head coach hasn’t had much luck either.

West Ham arguably had hopes of qualifying for Europe after investing heavily in their squad in the summer transfer window, but things have gone downhill ever since.

Instead of making progress after David Moyes’ relatively successful period at the Hammers, the team have seen a decline.

Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo were expected to bring quality to the Irons’ backline but have failed to make an impact so far.

The East London outfit have been defensively weak all season round, and big decisions will need to be made in the coming months regarding reinforcements and exits.

Supporters in the London Stadium will hope their team can pull one out of the fire against the Cherries.
