Pat Nevin says Michail Antonio wasn’t at his best during Liverpool v West Ham United

Pat Nevin has suggested that West Ham striker Michail Antonio wasn’t at his very best as they lost 1-0 against Liverpool at Anfield.

A first-half goal from Darwin Nunez sealed all three points for Jurgen Klopp’s side, but the Hammers really deserved something from this game.

Nevin said on BBC Radio 5 Live that David Moyes will be “devastated” that the Hammers couldn’t take their chances, especially in the second half.

West Ham

“West Ham had a go and it’s a shame that Antonio isn’t at his very best. They gave Liverpool a fright and David Moyes will be devastated that West Ham didn’t take at least one of those chances,” said Nevin, as relayed by BBC Sport.

Missed chances

West Ham have not won a game at Anfield since 2015 and they will have to wait longer after tonight’s result.

Anfield is not an easy place to go, and against Liverpool, you need to take your chances.

In terms of performance, it was a brilliant, well-disciplined effort from the players. But, goals win matches, and this is where they failed to get anything from this game.

Bowen missed a penalty in the first half, but the Hammers got plenty of opportunities to equalise during the second half.

Both Antonio and Said Benrahma were brilliant after coming off the bench. Until that point, Scamacca was getting isolated and he hardly had any impact.

But after Antonio’s introduction, the Italy striker got 2-3 very good chances to score.

Towards the end of the match, Tomas Soucek got a fantastic opportunity to equalise, but James Milner made a superb block to deny him.
