Neil Lennon fumes at what he saw in West Ham v Leicester – ‘I hate to say that’

Neil Lennon was fuming after what he saw as West Ham United beat Leicester City 2-0 in the Premier League.

Graham Potter’s team hosted Leicester at home on Thursday (27 February) and cruised to a comfortable victory.

Tomas Soucek found the back of the net for the Hammers before Jannik Vestergaard scored an own goal at the London Stadium in the first half.

The Irons weren’t under any sort of pressure from the hosts for most of the match, which left Lennon questioning the attitude of Ruud van Nistelrooy’s team.

Leicester threw in towel v West Ham at London Stadium

Lennon feels the Leicester players threw in the towel in their defeat against the East London club.

The former Northern Ireland international wasn’t pleased by the Foxes’ application on the pitch for most of the fixture.

Lennon believes the East Midlands outfit were bereft of quality and belief at the London Stadium as they endured another loss in the Premier League.

Speaking on Football on TNT Sports on X (27 February), the ex-Celtic manager said: “Yeah, very much so [Leicester threw in the towel]. I hate to say that about any group of players, but it’s really hard to make a case for them tonight on what we’ve seen. West Ham didn’t have to be anywhere near their best to win the game comfortably.

“I thought the first half they were very passive. They made a fist of it in the second half but zero quality, zero belief in what they were doing and the game just seemed to pass them by.”

Potter eases past Leicester challenge

Potter deserves some credit for stifling Leicester and setting up the East London club to perfection at home to get the three points.

The English manager seems on the right track after beating Arsenal 1-0 at the Emirates on Saturday (22 February).

Newcastle United are up next for the Hammers in the English top flight on 10 March as Potter gets a break to solidify his plans.

The former Chelsea boss has had a hectic few weeks at the London Stadium after replacing Julen Lopetegui.

Potter’s Premier League record this season.

There was constant uncertainty and chatter during the winter transfer window, but things finally seem to have settled at the East London club.

Leicester have been in abysmal form recently, enduring their 11th loss in the last 12 games in the Premier League.

The Hammers should’ve beaten the Foxes, and failure against them wouldn’t have bode well for Potter.

Now that the East Midlands outfit are out of the way, the Englishman needs to focus on ending the season as high up the table as possible.
