Michael Owen predicts West Ham clash away at Everton in Premier League

Michael Owen predicts West Ham to lose at the hands of Everton when Davis Moyes returns to Goodison Park on Sunday.

West Ham and Everton have both enjoyed decent starts to the season with the Hammers sitting ninth and the Toffees finding themselves fifth after seven Premier League matches.

Benitez has won every home league game since taking charge of Everton in the summer and Owen is struggling to see anything but a defeat for the Irons when they travel to Merseyside this weekend.

“Everton showed brilliant attitude to come back and claim a point at Old Trafford and could have nicked all three points. They’ve got back-to-back home games now and Rafa Benitez will be targeting all six points,” Owen wrote on the BetVictor website.

“The Hammers have started the season so well, so I was surprised by the performance and the defeat at home to Brentford. If they are to have top-six aspirations, they can’t have many more slip-ups like that.

“David Moyes would love to go back up to Goodison Park and claim the win, I don’t think he’ll get it though. Everton have won every home game under Benitez and I’m tipping another here by way of a 2-1 win.”

Tight game

Owen’s within his rights to predict a win for Everton this weekend – but we aren’t going to agree with them.

Everton have won all of their home games at Goodison this season and Owen can point to that stat as much as he wants. But the Toffees haven’t played anyone above 17th at Goodison this term.

Benitez’s home wins have been against Southampton, Norwich and Burnley. Hardly teams that you quake in your boots at the thought of playing in front of your home crowd.

West Ham will be the best team to rock up at Goodison this season and while we don’t want to be overconfident, we feel as though we’re good for at least a point on Merseyside.

We need to bounce back after the disappointing defeat to Brentford and Moyes is bound to have worked hard on getting his players back to their best over the international break.

In other West Ham news, a journalist won’t be surprised if this mainstay if left out by Moyes at Everton.
