Max Kilman stuns live on talkSPORT after what he did in Bournemouth v West Ham
Max Kilman made a “brilliant” block to deny Antoine Semenyo from scoring the opener as West Ham drew 1-1 with Bournemouth on Monday, Danny Murphy said.
The Englishman has been a welcome addition to Julen Lopetegui’s squad this season, having joined on a £40million deal from Wolves [BBC Sport], and was key once again at the Vitality Stadium on 16 December.
Pairing up with Konstantinos Mavropanos, the head coach will have been pleased with his side’s defensive display, at least before Lucas Paqueta and Enes Unal scored in the final five minutes.
Speaking live via talkSPORT [16 December, 9:13pm], Murphy said: “Brilliant. It’s a brilliant block from Kilman.”
Max Kilman leads by example in Bournemouth v West Ham United
Kilman has emerged as a true leader at the London Stadium following his summer transfer, even if Jarrod Bowen is the one to wear the captain’s armband.
While he only has one assist to his name so far, the centre-back is a big threat in the final third and should have more goals and assists under his belt.
The defence has been a huge issue for the Hammers so far this season, a trend which has only continued from David Moyes’ style of play, with goals leaking during the campaign.
Only four teams in the division have conceded more goals in the Premier League this term, showing the weak spots under Lopetegui, but the blame cannot rest solely on Kilman.

In fact, Kilman’s teammates must take inspiration from the centre-half’s ability to put his body on the line for a positive result and follow in his footsteps if things are to turn around in East London.
He could be a future leader if he plays his cards right at the London Stadium, though a new centre-back partnership could be a potential addition over the next two transfer window.
In other West Ham news, a third return for David Moyes could be on the cards after recent developments.
