Martin Allen thankful to QPR fans after what they did in FA Cup loss vs West Ham

Konstantinos Mavropanos was forced off with a sickening head injury in West Ham’s FA Cup third-round win 2-1 win over QPR.

Crysencio Summerville gave the Hammers the lead with an emphatic finish before Richard Kone levelled the scoring in the second half, with the match going to extra time as a result.

However, January signing Taty Castellanos scored his first West Ham goal by putting a brilliant 98th-minute header past goalkeeper Joe Walsh to send Nuno Espirito Santo’s side through to the fourth round.

Mavropanos was stretchered off the pitch in the 45th minute, and former West Ham and QPR man Martin Allen enjoyed how respectful the QPR fans were during the worrying moment.

QPR fans applauded Konstantinos Mavropanos as he left the pitch

Mavropanos seemed to be shoved by goalkeeper Walsh before his head hit a defender’s knee as he fell.

A stretcher was brought onto the pitch, and the Greek defender was cautiously lifted and carried down the tunnel.

He required extended medical attention for what appeared to be a head or neck injury, though he is understood to be conscious.

Supporters from both teams applauded as Mavropanos was substituted for new signing Pablo.

Allen took to X to highlight how the QPR fans reacted to the injury.

He said: “Love it, all the QPR fans clapping off a West Ham player going off with a head injury. Proper people.”

It was a sickening blow for the Hammers, and for Mavropanos, it’s yet another setback.

Mavropanos’ injury record for West Ham

Mavropanos suffered a torn thigh muscle on 20 October and was out of action until the end of November.

The 28-year-old has suffered a total of 15 injuries in his career, and fans will be hoping he makes a swift recovery.

That being said, Mavropanos has been criticised for his performances, but with the Hammers already light at the back, they need him as good cover throughout the busy run of fixtures.

Several centre-backs have been linked with a move to E20, with Charlie Cresswell, Roggerio Nyakossi, and Ethan Pinnock all on their shortlist.

Given the uncertainty of the Greek defender’s injury, the Hammers have to act quickly if they want to add depth to their backline.

Mavropanos will be bitterly frustrated, and he will be hoping that he can make a swift return to first-team action.
