Kalvin Phillips dropped, Vladimir Coufal starts – Confirmed West Ham United XI v Manchester United

David Moyes has made two changes to his West Ham United starting lineup for the Old Trafford clash with Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

January loan signing Kalvin Phillips drops to the bench as Vladimir Coufal comes back into the side in what looks like a switch to a back-five, with the England international named as a substitute.

Nayef Aguerd also returns to the team following his AFCON exploits ahead of Dinos Mavropanos, with Ben Johnson keeping his place in the team as a third centre-back as predicted by West Ham News.

Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse and Tomas Soucek start in midfield while Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus start in tandem up front.

Patience is a virtue for West Ham

A trip to Old Trafford is never an easy game for anyone, despite their form in recent months, and this game will surely be no different for West Ham.

But it wasn’t long ago at the London Stadium where Moyes set the team up perfectly to control them and hit them where it hurt to earn a comfortable 2-0 win, and he should be looking to do the same again here.

It might not be the best watch when he sets the team up to play a low block and the attackers don’t see much of the ball, but everyone soon forgets that if the Hammers pick up three points and it would be the same this time around.

The fans and the players must be patient in this game and know that Man United will probably have most of the ball, but the team has to be clinical when they do get chances and they know they can get a victory at Old Trafford for the first time in 16 attempts in the Premier League.

Patience is a virtue and this team suggests the manager wants to not lose rather than go for the win. It may be a long afternoon but there is certainly a chance for victory. Ian Wright believes in the team, so hopefully we prove him right.
