Julen Lopetegui makes Lucas Paqueta error – West Ham confirmed XI v Liverpool

Julen Lopetegui has named his West Ham starting XI ahead of their clash against Liverpool in the EFL Cup on Wednesday 25 September.

The Hammers posted their starting XI on X with the Spaniard bringing Danny Ings and Carlos Soler into his side at Anfield, making eight changes from the defeat against Chelsea.

Last time out against Enzo Maresca’s side was embarrassing and now the Irons have to try and bounce back. Not an easy task at Anfield.

With that being said, it is baffling that Lucas Paqueta won’t be starting the clash after being named on the bench.

Lucas Paqueta misses out for West Ham against Liverpool

The Hammers are in need of a win to build some confidence around the London Stadium after a poor start to the season.

After parting ways with David Moyes, fans would have been hopeful of a better start in the Premier League than their side have had.

After two losses and a draw in their last three games, this clash at Anfield poses the opportunity to relight a fire in the bellies of the Irons’ fans and players.

Lucasz Fabianski has come in, in between the sticks with Vladimir Coufal, Max Kilman, Jean-Clair Todibo and Aaron Cresswell in, in front of the ex-Poland international.

Edson Alvarez struggled against Chelsea but hasn’t dropped out with Guido Rodriguez being replaced by Tomas Soucek alongside him in the middle of the park.

In forward areas, Ings is starting up top while being supplemented by Jarrod Bowen, Carlos Soler and Crysencio Summerville.

It does feel as if Paqueta could have taken the place of the PSG loanee to add some creativity to the midfield against a top side.

In other West Ham news, a David Moyes stance has already been shared as a return has already been mooted.
