Jarrod Bowen leaves Sky Sports pundit in disbelief with overshadowed West Ham moment vs Brighton

Jarrod Bowen’s goal against Brighton overshadowed another moment of quality for West Ham earlier in the game.

West Ham’s 1-1 draw at the Amex means that they still sit in the Premier League relegation zone, two points adrift of 17th-place Nottingham Forest.

Konstantinos Mavropanos’ awful mistake summed up an error-strewn first half, but Bowen was on hand to open the scoring for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, 17 minutes from time.

However, the Hammers couldn’t hold on, with Georginio Rutter squeezing the ball through the legs of Alphonse Areola to level the scores with just seconds remaining.

Jarrod Bowen shocks Matt Upson during West Ham vs Brighton

On the hour mark, West Ham had their best moment of the game up to that point, with Bowen picking the ball up in the middle of the Brighton half and driving towards goal.

The England international skipped past four defenders before unleashing a right-footed shot, which was kept out by a sprawling Bart Verbruggen.

Crysencio Summerville almost converted the rebound, but Verbruggen got back to his feet to divert the winger’s acrobatic overhead kick over the bar.

Speaking on Sky Sports, former West Ham defender Matt Upson was particularly impressed with the way Bowen drove past four Brighton men before getting his shot off.

Upson said: “How on earth does Jarrod Bowen stay on his feet, let alone get a shot off of that kind of quality?”

Jarrod Bowen proves his worth for West Ham

It has been an incredibly difficult season for West Ham, but they would be a lot worse off without Bowen, who is undoubtedly their talisman.

The 28-year-old proved his worth yet again down on the South Coast, firing his side in front just 10 minutes after he was denied by Verbruggen.

Callum Wilson slotted Bowen through, and with the angle closing, the former Hull City man was able to slide in and direct the ball into the far corner.

Bowen now has four Premier League goals this season for the Hammers, and will be absolutely vital in the East London side’s bid to avoid relegation.

Georginio Rutter may have struck to level up, but Bowen’s goal and this point is still a positive result all things considered.
