Jarrod Bowen aims dig at West Ham teammates after shocking Sunderland loss

West Ham suffered an embarrassing 3-0 loss to Sunderland on Saturday.

West Ham travelled to the Stadium of Light on 16 August, hoping to start the campaign positively, but they failed miserably.

The result puts Graham Potter under serious pressure at West Ham, as sack talk from last season is bound to be on the agenda again.

The ex-Brighton manager was furious with the performances, and he was joined by Jarrod Bowen, who was also livid.

Bowen’s comments outline West Ham fury

Bowen is one of the few players that West Ham can rely on to perform every week and to raise the levels of his teammates.

However, he could not do that on this occasion, as the majority of the team put in an utterly disgraceful display against the newly-promoted side.

New signing Malick El Hadji Diouf can hold his head high but not many others can, and Bowen called for higher standards and wants them to bounce back against Chelsea on 22 August.

Speaking to the club’s official website (16 August), he said: “Yeah I’m obviously fuming, I wanna start the season on a high and do you know I thought in the Premier League if you don’t take your opportunities, it’s only a matter of time if you don’t defend well enough.

“I thought the goals were quite easy and we’re all disappointed on that behalf in the manner that we conceded the goals.

“You’re going to lose games at this level if that happens. So obviously disappointed, fuming with the start we’ve had today…

“You want to put it right, and we have an opportunity to do that at home on Friday night.”

Where do West Ham go from here?

Well, their fixtures certainly do not get any easier, as their next three league matches are against the Blues, Nottingham Forest and Tottenham.

They need a much-improved performance versus Enzo Maresca’s side, at the very least, if they cannot secure a victory.

There is still time remaining in the transfer window for David Sullivan and Co. to fix the issues within the squad, but they may have left it too late.

It remains to be seen whether the chairman, who is in charge of transfers, can get the right personnel for the Hammers to turn the situation around.

The likes of Guido Rodriguez and Nayef Aguerd are reportedly set to move on from the London Stadium this summer, yet they both started against Regis Le Bris’ side.

Potter needs the right players and ones he trusts to work in his system, though it is clear that he is having to make do with what he has at the moment.

If they continue to struggle the way that they did against the Black Cats, it could be curtains for Potter and he may find himself looking for a new job, sooner rather than later.
