Jarrod Bowen 2nd-half event draws reaction from Tony Gayle

Jarrod Bowen would have been “gutted” after he lifted a shot onto the bar in the second half against Norwich, according to Tony Gale.

The English attacker received a great ball into the box from Pablo Fornals but could only succeed in clipping his shot slightly too heavily over keeper Tim Krul in the 58th minute.

It was part of an all-action display from the ex-Hull City player after he had already had a goal ruled out by VAR before opening the scoring in the first half.

Speaking on the Premier League world feed, former West Ham player Gale said: “He’ll be gutted with that one because his first touch is really good.

“He does everything right just clipping it over Krul but clips it over him and onto the crossbar. He’ll feel he should have scored that.”

The second-half miss barely detracted from an excellent performance from Bowen who has been in top form of late.

He played a key role in the win over Leeds United in the FA Cup Third Round at the weekend, where he scored the second goal in injury time.

And nearly all of the key incidents at the London Stadium on Wednesday night revolved around him.

Manager David Moyes will be especially delighted with his form considering another strong performer this season, Said Benrahma is away with Algeria at the African Cup of Nations.

There was a worrying moment late in the game where Bowen was caught by Norwich defender Brandon Williams and looked like he might have picked up an injury.

However he was able to carry on and fans will be hoping his form continues throughout the rest of the season.

In other West Ham news, this potential transfer has had an update from a key journalist.
