Jamie Carragher slams Paqueta after what he did in West Ham loss v Liverpool

Jamie Carragher was less than impressed with the antics of Lucas Paqueta as West Ham fell to yet another league defeat.

West Ham thought they had secured a point at Anfield, but a Virgil Van Dijk dagger in the 89th minute sealed all three points for Liverpool in a 2-1 win.

The defeat marks a fifth game in a row without victory for the Hammers, who have won just two of their last 11 league encounters under Graham Potter.

In the defeat, Paqueta caught the attention of Carragher, though not for the better, and instead of his involvement in the winning goal.

Paqueta needs to cut the dark arts out of his game

Paqueta is a player with an immense amount of quality, but far too often that is overshadowed by his attempts to deceive referees.

In fact, he has started to gain somewhat of a reputation for it, and it proved to be rather costly for West Ham in their latest defeat.

Liverpool deserved their win against West Ham.

Just as the Irons found a route back into the game, Paqueta threw himself to the floor under a challenge from Alexis Mac Allister, though he received no foul for it, and rightfully so.

Liverpool went on to win a corner from the incident where Van Dijk scored the winner, with Carragher calling the Brazilian out for his play-acting.

Speaking via Sky Sports PL (13 April, 3:46pm), Carragher said: “It’s daft from Paqueta, I don’t really know what he’s doing”

Graham Potter has a huge task on his hands at West Ham

West Ham have looked lethargic in games, and much of it is down to the lack of attacking identity under Graham Potter since he took charge.

If the Irons are to get back competing at the top end of the Premier League, that needs to change, and summer recruitment at West Ham will play a big part.

As for now, with nothing left to play for, the Hammers need to find the system that suits them the best, while identifying the main areas that need to be strengthened in the summer, though many of them are already obvious.
