Graeme Souness slams Said Benrahma after West Ham clash v Everton
Graeme Souness has slammed West Ham United winger Said Benrahma after the Premier League clash with Everton on Sunday afternoon.
The Algerian international is yet to score since arriving at the London Stadium, but was handed the golden chance during this clash.
Pablo Fornals lifted in the perfect cross to the back post, but despite being free, Benrahma could only head the ball over the bar.
Speaking on Sky Sports during their Super Sunday coverage, Souness was far from impressed with what he saw from Benrahma.
“It’s a lovely cross,” he said.
“Benrahma at the far post, it’s a lovely flighted pass, he arrives late, he’s seen coming a long way and has tried to guide it back into this far corner, he gets it wrong.
“He’s not gone for power. He’s just trying to guide it after a delightful cross. He’s in the perfect place, meets it square on but gets the direction wrong.”
No excuses.
What a shocker, we can’t believe it.
These are the kind of chances that Benrahma will have been dreaming about when thinking about how he is going to score his first goal for the Hammers.
Benrahma has been sensational in recent weeks, especially against Burnley last time out, and he deserves that strike that will hit the back of the net and unleash him properly.
The winger tried too hard when all he needed to do was get the correct contact and keep it down, he didn’t need to guide it as much as he tried to do.
Fornals had put it on a plate, and there won’t be many better chances for Benrahma between now and the end of the season.
