Gary Neville reacts as West Ham United star Tomas Soucek spotted in Euro 2024 brawl

Gary Neville noticed it “kicking off” when West Ham United’s Tomas Soucek got involved in a heated confrontation at full-time in Czechia’s Euro 2024 loss to Turkey.

Soucek, 29, got himself on the scoresheet in Hamburg but it wasn’t enough as Czechia lost 2-1 and finished the group stages bottom of Group F.

Antonin Barak was sent off in the 20th minute for a second yellow card before a full-time scuffle – that seemed to be started by Soucek – resulted in him being booked and Tomas Chory being shown a straight red card by Romanian referee Istvan Kovacs.

Speaking on ITV at full-time (26 June, 09:57pm), Neville said: “Oh, it’s all kicking off.”

Host Mark Pougatch said: “There’s a red card being shown. There’s already been one red card for the Czechs and I think they’ve got another one after the full-time whistle.”

West Ham star Soucek fight not enough for Czechia

Soucek got himself a goal and was in the middle of a full-time bust-up but his fight wasn’t enough for his country as they finished bottom of Group F.

Portugal, Turkey and – unbelievably – Georgia made it through their group to the knock-outs and there’ll no doubt be an inquest about as to why the Czechs didn’t get through that group.

With players like Soucek, Vladimir Coufal, Barak, Adam Hlozek and Patrik Schick in Ivan Hasek’s squad, Czechia should have been hoping to finish at the very least third.

But Georgia’s stunning 2-0 win against Euro 2016 champions Portugal cemented their spot in the last-16 even though they’re the lowest-ranked team in the competition.

For Soucek, he’ll be on his way home for his holidays now before rejoining with the West Ham squad for pre-season.

It remains to be seen what the scuffle was all about because ITV’s coverage of the incident was pretty poor but it’ll no doubt emerge very soon what ignited it.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers want to secure the transfer of a player who’s set to leave Tottenham Hotspur this month.
