Gary Lineker reacts as West Ham secure 2-1 win over Leeds

West Ham United came from behind to secure a 2-1 win at the expense of Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday.

The hosts went ahead through Raphinha 19 minutes into the game, but the Hammers fought back in the second-half, with Junior Firpo’s own goal drawing them level with 23 minutes on the clock, before Jamaican international Michail Antonio, 31, grabbed the winner in the 90th minute.

BBC Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker was pleased with the performance of the West Ham ace, taking to his personal Twitter account to react after the game.

He said: “He’s done it again.

“Michail Antonio with a late winner.

“What a striker he’s turned into.”

Huge player

Antonio was badly missed against Manchester United last weekend, and the Irons would have fancied their chances of getting a result had he played.

West Ham rested him during midweek’s trip to Old Trafford in the League Cup, and he was back in action at Elland Road, proving himself again with a great finish.

The striker has five goals and three assists in five league appearances in 2021-22, and he looks to be eyeing the Golden Boot given his red-hot form.

West Ham

For someone who started his West Ham career as a defender, Antonio has defied logic with his return in front of goal, and the Hammers highest goalscorer in the history of the top flight is a massive player for David Moyes.

The only concern the Hammers boss would have on his mind is the striker’s injury record given his lack of a like-for-like cover on the bench.

Antonio has managed to stay fit thus far, and if he can be available for the whole campaign, this team could end up punching above their weight again, and the forward could be in the running for the goalscoring top prize.
