David Moyes: Angelo Ogbonna tackle was ‘stupid’

David Moyes was not happy with West Ham defender Angelo Ogbonna’s decision to make a tackle late on in the game against Brentford.

The Bees ended up scoring from that free kick and came away from their cross-city trip to the London Stadium with maximum points.

It was certainly a devastating blow to the Hammers as there was close to no time left for them to equalise.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, Football London quoted him as saying, “I thought their player should not have been able to get from the byline and it was a stupid free kick to concede.”

Bad performance

This was no way to play against a newly-promoted side and the Hammers deservedly lost.

There didn’t seem to be a proper game plan in place and it often seemed like the hosts were the ones lacking Premier League experience.

When it comes to Ogbonna, it could be argued that he was just as responsible for the first strike as well.

When Ivan Toney’s strike was saved by Lukasz Fabianksi, Bryan Mbuemo was first to tap the ball home.

However, he was in line with Ogbonna when the shot was taken, but the Italian did not have the presence of mind to track his man.

Both the goals were avoidable and unfortunately Ogbonna was guilt on the two occasions.

We’re hoping he bounces back stronger after the international break or Moyes may have to axe him.
