Commentator praises West Ham United duo Lucas Paqueta and Gianluca Scamacca for what they did v Fulham

Gianluca Scamacca and Lucas Paqueta were praised by Tony Jones for a brilliant link up during the first half of West Ham United’s win over Fulham on Sunday.

The Hammers found themselves a goal down thanks to a stunning strike from Andreas Pereira early on, and had several chances to equalise through the Italian striker only for him to miss the target and force saves from Bernd Leno.

Midway through the half one such chance came after some nimble footwork from Paqueta, who crossed for Scamacca only for Leno to save from just five-yards out, which had the CNBC commentary team drooling at their quality.

“The two big name summer signings producing something special at last for West Ham,” he said [9 October, 14:24].

The two later linked up again in the second half, with Paqueta dinking the ball over the top for Scamacca to control and lob Leno to give the Hammers the lead and ultimately all three points.

Start

Scamacca’s quality has shown at the London Stadium since day one, but he seemed to lack fitness initially and Michail Antonio started the season well.

But this recent run of games is exactly what he needed to cement himself as the first-choice striker at the club and he is rewarding Moyes with goals and top performances.

West Ham

Paqueta has struggled since his club-record move but he is in a similar boat to Scamacca in terms of fitness and adapting to a new league. Having joined much later in the window, he needs a bit more time to get up to speed.

But what we saw in Sunday’s game, and against Wolves last week too, is a partnership between two unbelievable talents beginning to blossom and that can only be good for West Ham.

As Jones said, there is something “special” there with the two of them and if Moyes and West Ham can unlock it on a regular basis then only good things will come from it.
