Clive Allen raves over West Ham ace Michail Antonio in first half v Sevilla

Clive Allen has hailed West Ham ace Michail Antonio for his “really clever” play against Sevilla in the first half of the Hammers Europa League clash.

The Irons forward did a brilliant job of holding the ball up and bringing his team into play in the first half at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.

Moyes will be pleased with his side that kept the Spanish outfit very much at arm’s length whilst carving out several chances themselves.

Allen said live on BT Sport: “clever, really clever from Antonio,” he said.

“He draws the contact from behind, just a touch, over he goes.”

That was a very impressive first half of this hugely important Europa League double header for West Ham.

They will be disappointed not to go in ahead with Nikola Vlasic missing his header that he really should have scored.

Sevilla controlled the play early on in the game, as expected, but the Hammers grew into the game immensely.

Antonio was probably the team’s best player, showing great energy up top, spreading the Sevilla defence and causing them so many problems with his strength and movement.

It is hugely important to come away from this game with a positive result as the Europa League now looks like the club’s best route to Champions League football next season.

Considering the Spanish outfit are one of the favourites and have won the competition more than anybody else, David Moyes will be very confident his team can go all the way in the competition.

A huge second half awaits Moyes and this Hammers team.
