Clinton Morrison hits out at Nayef Aguerd in West Ham United loss v Nottingham Forest
Clinton Morrison has slammed Nayef Aguerd following Taiwo Awonyi’s opening goal in the 2-0 Premier League defeat for West Ham against Nottingham Forest.
The former Crystal Palace striker hit out at the defender for not being strong enough as he was rolled easily by Awonyi who put the home side 1-0 up.
Following the 6-0 defeat to Arsenal last week, Morrison has insisted the Hammers defence is vulnerable and it was a brilliant finish from the Nigerian striker to open the scoring.
Speaking live on Sky Sports News [17 February, 15:51] Morrison shared: “It’s Awonyi, it’s a good ball into him and he says to Aguerd: ‘Get off me, you’re not strong enough.’ He just rolls him, and once he’s one-on-one with Areola, left-foot right into the bottom corner and it’s what Forest deserve.
“West Ham’s defence has not been anywhere near good enough, they shipped in six last week and they’re so vulnerable at the back. Brilliant goal from Awonyi, 1-0.”
Key West Ham stars have not stepped up v Nottingham Forest
It is players like Aguerd who need to step up in times like this, and he hasn’t. The Algerian cost David Moyes almost £30million when he arrived from Rennes in 2022, but despite his lofty price tag, this is not the first poor moment he has shown this year.
Coming off the back of a 6-0 home defeat against Arsenal, another defeat for the Hammers puts Moyes’ future in further doubt with the pressure piling on after the offer of a new contract was delayed.

Some of the most important players in this team have failed to step up when the going got tough, as the Hammers continue to lose games and show no sign of turning this difficult run of form around despite their talented options.
Nottingham Forest were one of the clubs singled out as a possible victory for the Hammers given their struggles towards the bottom of the table, but another defeat without a goal may have put the nail in Moyes’ coffin.
