Chris Sutton shares instant reaction to West Ham Europa League win v Lyon

Chris Sutton has heaped praise on West Ham for their ‘terrific performance’ against Lyon as they earned a 3-0 win and a place in the Europa League semi-finals.

Goals from Craig Dawson, Declan Rice and Jarrod Bowen were enough to see off the threat of the Ligue 1 side in France, who were previously unbeaten in the entire competition up to this point.

Sutton took to his personal Twitter account to praise the Hammers, admitting his was ‘delighted’ for manager David Moyes.

“Terrific performance from West Ham. Delighted for David Moyes,” he said, following it up with two clapping emojis.

The Hammers will face Eintracht Frankfurt in the semi-finals, after the Germans completed a shock victory over Barcelona with a 3-2 win at the Camp Nou.

Amazing

It was billed as one of the biggest games in West Ham’s modern history, and the players delivered in a way that many didn’t imagine was possible.

They dominated the game and controlled it even without possession for large parts after a shaky opening 15 minutes, but after that it was theirs to lose.

They took their chances well, nullified the attacks of their opposition and will head into the semi-final against Frankfurt believing that anything is possible now that Barcelona are out too.

West Ham

It was a picture perfect performance from Moyes’ side and justification for the defeat to Brentford at the weekend, with the manager clearly now prioritising silverware in Europe.

And rightly so too. This is their best path towards Champions League football now and after such a good season, to finish it empty handed would be a shame. They were brilliant and deserve all the praise they will get.
