BT Sport pundit rages at ‘horrendous’ incident in West Ham United v Fiorentina
Cristiano Biraghi was struck in the head by a cup thrown toward him by West Ham supporters, causing him to draw blood, as he attempted to take a corner in the 33rd minute of the UEFA Conference League final.
The incident forced the game to be momentarily paused as Biraghi received treatment. Upon being struck by the cup, Biraghi turned to the supporters and sarcastically applauded the shameful act.
Multiple West Ham stars went over to their supporters to urge them to stop what they were doing.

Commentator Don Hutchinson expressed his view live on air on BT Sport 1 at 08:33pm, saying: “That’s horrendous. To be fair to Michail Antonio and West Ham players – Kurt Zouma is one and Declan Rice another – they’re going over to that section of fans and telling them to calm down.”
Not what you want to see
These kinds of incidents have absolutely no place in football and although it is just a minority causing the issue, it is a minority which unfortunately overwhelms the majority.
With the game still being played, West Ham fans will hopefully listen to the advice of their players and stop the embarrassing acts which could lead to a player on the pitch getting injured.
The game was able to restart after the incident and hopefully won’t need to be stopped again. With both sets of players on the pitch representing their teams on a historic night, they will be hoping to continue to play the rest of the game without further action needing to be taken.
Ultimately, these incidents are just pure stupidity and take away from the beautiful game everyone loves. These ‘fans’ causing these problems ultimately have no place in a stadium as they take away from the action on the pitch.
In other West Ham news, could tonight’s game be the final one for David Moyes as West Ham manager?
