Arsenal fans ridiculed over West Ham United stance ahead of Premier League title decider
Barney Ronay has taken a new swipe at Arsenal supporters ahead of the West Ham United’s Premier League showdown with Manchester City.
David Moyes’ side make the trip to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday (19 May) for their final match of the season and their final clash under the Scotsman’s management, while the Gunners take on Everton at The Emirates.
Mikel Arteta’s side need the Hammers to pull off a shock result against the reigning champions to lift their first Premier League title in 20 years, and Guardian journalist Ronay has fired a jibe at the Gunners for wanting their rivals to win.
Writing on X on Sunday (19 May) he said: “Saddened to hear some Arsenal fans want their local rivals West Ham to win today.”
Can West Ham United pull off a shock v Manchester City to hand Arsenal the title?
It wasn’t too long ago that Arsenal fans were accusing Tottenham supporters of being childish for wanting City to beat them. Only days later and the Gunners are almost feeling the same way about West Ham.
Everyone has already written of Moyes’ side before a ball has been kicked, but they will be playing with no pressure at the Etihad. If they reach the standards they set at the start of the campaign, they could manage an upset.
Plenty of these players will be playing for their futures under Julen Lopetegui at the London Stadium, especially as it seems likely the former Real Madrid manager will be keen to put his own stamp on the squad this summer.
While they may not want to hand London rivals Arsenal the Premier League title, Moyes and his side will want to bow out with a win. Hopefully, they can pull off the unthinkable and ensure the final day of the season is a cracker.
