Arsenal fans already have ‘flashbacks’ ahead of London Stadium clash v West Ham United

Arsenal supporters will already be getting flashbacks ahead of their clash with West Ham, according to journalist Alex Keble.

Such flashbacks come after the Gunners blew a two-goal lead against the Hammers in April of last season, denting their title hopes.

That clash at the London Stadium ended 2-2, with Mikel Arteta now returning to that venue on Sunday (11 February).

“Of the three frontrunners, Arsenal arguably face the most difficult next six weeks despite their morale-boosting 3-1 victory over Liverpool last weekend,” Keble wrote for the official Premier League website.

“That’s because they begin the run at West Ham United, the site of a two-goal collapse on 16 April last year, that led to a 3-3 draw with Southampton and then a 4-1 defeat to Man City.

“Arsenal supporters will already be getting flashbacks, especially having lost 2-0 to West Ham in the league in December.”

West Ham welcome Arsenal to the London Stadium

Arsenal really haven’t had much luck against their London neighbours lately, with the Hammers having already defeated the Gunners twice this season.

One loss was the aforementioned 2-0 Premier League defeat at the Emirates at the end of December, but Arteta’s side also lost out to David Moyes and his players a month before.

The East London club were in sizzling form in the League Cup round of 16 meeting at the London Stadium, where they ran out 3-1 winners. And the 2-2 draw last season means Arsenal are now without a win against the Hammers in their last three meetings.

That will undoubtedly worry Arteta and indeed the travelling fans this weekend, but the North London club should be full of confidence after a huge win against Liverpool.

The Reds remain top of the Premier League despite that loss, but the Gunners are now just two points behind them, as are Manchester City.

In other West Ham news, a journalist has made a “light a fire” prediction on an exit-linked Hammers player.
