Ally McCoist slams Gianluca Scamacca for ‘horrific’ moment during Liverpool v West Ham United

Gianluca Scamacca scuffed a great opportunity to draw West Ham level against Liverpool on Wednesday night.

Darwin Nunez headed the hosts into the lead in the first half, but West Ham came out fighting after the break and carved a number of big chances.

One of which fell to Scamacca with 10 minutes to go. Michail Antonio slid the Italian forward through on goal, but he completely misjudged his effort.

Speaking via Amazon Prime Sport, Ally McCoist didn’t hold back in his judgement of Scamacca’s strike.

“They go direct, gives him a good pass – it’s not a great touch and the finish is worse.

“Leaning back, body shape is all wrong. It’s just a horrific strike.”

Night to forget

Scamacca has so often been West Ham’s hero this season, but the 23-year-old endured a miserable outing at Anfield on Wednesday.

Starved of service in the first half, Scamacca finally came into the game after the break and started seeing the ball. However, his passing was sloppy and his finishing woeful.

Antonio did superbly to find him in space and present him with a scoring opportunity, but Scamacca uncharacteristically rushed his strike and sent it barrelling into the stands.

To sum it up – David Moyes hooked him off the pitch just moments later.

Hopefully it doesn’t play too much on his confidence because Scamacca has been a superb addition to the Hammers since his arrival in the summer ad he’ll be crucial for Moyes’ side in the coming weeks.

Brush it off and go again, Gianluca.
