Ally McCoist blown away by what Jarrod Bowen did in West Ham United loss v Tottenham
Ally McCoist was amazed by Jarrod Bowen’s skill and trickery on the ball as West Ham lost 4-1 to Tottenham on Saturday (19 October).
With the Hammers pinned back in their own half, the captain took it upon himself to get his side out of danger, escaping two Spurs players with “fabulous” skills and charging into the final third.
While nothing came of the moment, Bowen continued to lead from the front after supplying the assist for Mohammed Kudus’ opener, pushing his side up the pitch at every opportunity.
Speaking live on TNT Sports on Saturday (19 October, 1:13pm), McCoist said: “That’s fabulous football from Bowen, just keeping the ball. He knows at the very least that he’ll get a free-kick and take the pressure off his teammates.”
Is Jarrod Bowen the perfect West Ham United captain?
As a player who knows exactly what it means to play for the Hammers, Julen Lopetegui could not have picked a better captain ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
Though the 27-year-old has struggled alongside his teammates at the start of the season, he has continued to put his body on the line and pop up when it matters most.
The Premier League have not officially registered Bowen’s assist for Kudus’ opening goal, who has also struggled to get going this season, but the winger would not have cared as the ball hit the back of the net.

Lopetegui, despite the earlier goal, will be extremely angry by the final result, however. The Hammers looked so bright in the first half but conceded twice in two minutes to blow them away.
Ange Postecoglou’s side certainly have the ability to do that, but with fans already doubting Lopetegui’s new reign at the London Stadium, the defeat is a huge blow.
In other West Ham news, Julen Lopetegui can forget about Joel Matip by signing an “outstanding” defender who has dropped £13million in price.
