Alan Shearer hits out at ‘terrible’ scenes he saw unfold in West Ham win vs Newcastle United

Alan Shearer was furious as West Ham beat Newcastle United at the London Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday.

West Ham beat Newcastle 3-1, marking Nuno Espirito Santo‘s first victory in charge of the Hammers after taking over at the end of September.

Lucas Paqueta scored to cancel out Jacob Murphy’s opener, before Sven Botman scored an own goal and Tomas Soucek put the seal on the proceedings.

Nuno made several changes to his team against Newcastle, with the former Tottenham boss rewarded by his side’s performance.

West Ham have a brutal run of Premier League fixtures approaching, with Nuno undoubtedly delighted to have started with three points.

Alan Shearer slams Newcastle United

Murphy had opened the scoring for Newcastle in just the fifth minute, driving past El Hadji Malick Diouf and powering into the bottom corner.

Diouf was slammed for his defending against Newcastle, but the defender would not be downbeat for too long.

Paqueta equalised, smashing in a brilliant effort from outside of the box that beat Nick Pope at the near post.

And before half-time, West Ham would take the lead. Aaron Wan-Bissaka‘s cross would take a massive deflection off Botman and roll into the net.

Shearer was incensed by his former side’s performance in the first-half, and took to social media to slam the Magpies.

“What terrible first half from Newcastle,” he wrote. “Sloppy and leggy. Too many errors.”

What did Shearer say after full-time?

Shearer was even more scathing about his team after the game had finished. Newcastle had virtually created nothing, and were put out of their misery when Soucek slid home in the closing seconds.

The former Magpie took to social media once again and wrote: “That was awful. No better 2nd half. Not one positive.

“Lazy. Leggy. Lethargic. Well done West Ham.”

And well done West Ham indeed. The Hammers were superb on Sunday, and may well have scored four or five on another day.

Nuno and the Hammers fans will hope the victory can serve as a turning point for the Irons, who showed just what they can do when flowing with confidence.
