Alan Shearer blown away by what ‘brilliant’ Bowen did in Fulham vs West Ham United

Alan Shearer has hailed Jarrod Bowen after the role he played in Danny Ings’ equaliser for West Ham United against Fulham.

The Hammers nabbed a point in their trip across London as Bowen set up Ings to level the game in the dying moments.

Julen Lopetegui’s side do remain 14th in the Premier League table but will be over the moon to avoid defeat in the manner in which they did.

Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day [14 September], Shearer said: “It’s brilliant play from Bowen, how he’s kept [the ball] in. Danny Ings is free in there … and finishes it off.”

West Ham United talisman Jarrod Bowen vital again

West Ham United have relied on Bowen to orchestrate some huge moments down the years, and once again he has come up trumps.

The Irons skipper was switched on in the dying moments of the match when the Fulham defence had lapsed in concentration, pulling away into space for the throw-in from Vladimir Coufal which began the quickfire move.

Ings – a natural fox in the box – was there on the same hymn sheet to finish off the equaliser, and got Bowen off the mark for assists in the Premier League in 2024-25.

Every Hammers attack operates through Bowen which has made him irreplaceable, and after surviving a few scares as he was inevitably linked away from the London Stadium, Lopetegui is getting the best out of him as a huge transition takes place.

With many of the old guard being replaced by exciting new signings and fresh blood, Bowen is a vital constant who must be allowed that free role in which to thrive.
