Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker wowed by footage of George Earthy after West Ham United win v Luton

West Ham United youngster George Earthy has attracted praise from Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker on Match of the Day after making an immediate impact against Luton Town on Saturday.

The 19-year-old scored his first senior goal in the 76th minute to round off a 3-1 win at the London Stadium as the Hammers emerged victorious in David Moyes’ final home game in charge.

Earthy – who made his debut last month but had been out after a nasty head injury – was returning to the West Ham side and managed to score with his first touch to effectively consign Luton to relegation.

Speaking on Match of the Day [11 May, 37:55], the duo were watching back the goal as Shearer said: “Have a look at Earthy. How long has he been on, a minute? His first touch and that’s his first Premier League goal, [Teden] Mengi hasn’t got a clue where he is.”

“Great run,” replied Lineker.

“Brilliant run and a brilliant finish,” continued Shearer as the 19-year-old boyhood Hammers fan wrapped up the three points in David Moyes’ final home game in charge.

Earthy ensures Moyes bows out with West Ham win

If Earthy is the last young player to make an impact on the West Ham first team under Moyes, he’ll be one the Scotsman is proud of.

After just four weeks ago being replaced nine minutes into his senior debut for his local club with a sickening head injury, the character he has shown to bounce back and score in the Premier League at the London Stadium is remarkable.

West Ham United manager David Moyes
David Moyes will be remembered fondly by West Ham supporters.

And to attract the praise he has from Alan Shearer – the man who achieved the same feat on 260 occasions – the teenager is certainly on the right path.

Earthy’s contribution for the Hammers’ Under-21 side has been excellent this year, with 13 goals and nine assists from midfield. Moyes is reaping the rewards of breaking him through, and it certainly won’t be the last we see of the youngster.

The last we see of the manager himself at West Ham comes at title-chasing Manchester City next week. And if Earthy is able to make a contribution at the Etihad, many more headlines will come his way.

In other West Ham news, Moyes was spotted with this gesture towards Luton boss Rob Edwards.
