Aaron Cresswell apologies to Everton fan after incident before West Ham match

Aaron Cresswell apologised to a young Everton fan after a wayward shot by the West Ham left-back hit a child.

Ahead of West Ham’s 1-0 win over the Toffees at Goodison Park on Sunday, Cresswell was practising his free-kicks but one of his efforts ended up hitting a fan behind the goal.

According to Football.London journalist Tom Clark, no harm was done to the child who was hit by Cresswell’s shot and the left-back went over to “offer his apologies” once the warm-up was over.

It happens

As unfortunate as that child was to be hit by one of Cresswell’s free-kicks, it’s one of the hazards of attending a football match.

Thankfully, the child was fine and Cresswell showed his class by going over to the Everton fans and apologising.

He didn’t mean it – it just happens.

Everyone who regularly attends football matches sees things like this happen on an almost weekly basis.

It’s important that people keep their eyes forward if they’re sitting in the ground. Especially during the warm-ups because there are more balls on the pitch and more shots fired at goals in that short period than the entire 90 minutes.

West Ham did well to win at Goodison on Sunday.

It was a tough game to watch but we were the better team and Angelo Ogbonna’s second-half goal was very much coming.

Everton had their chances but we’re up to sixth now and the defeat to Brentford has been banished to history.

In other West Ham news, Michael Owen predicted the game against Everton.
