What we know as Edson Alvarez spotted in West Ham United training

Edson Alvarez has endured a frustrating time of it at West Ham United.

The Mexico international was loaned out by Graham Potter in the summer of 2025 after falling out of favour at the London Stadium.

But it was an unhappy spell at Fenerbahce for Alvarez, who saw Jose Mourinho sacked then endured injury trouble.

It was widely expected that Alvarez would depart West Ham during the summer transfer window.

However, despite links to the likes of Real Sociedad a move never materialised, and he has been in a state of limbo.

Now, though, it looks like Alvarez could be imminently about to return to the fold at the London Stadium.

What's the latest with Edson Alvarez at West Ham?

Alvarez did feature for West Ham in their Carabao Cup first-round win over Portsmouth at the start of August.

However, since then the 28-year-old has not been involved at all under Nuno Espirito Santo in the Championship.

When it became apparent an exit route from the London Stadium would not be forthcoming, there were suggestions Alvarez would be reintegrated.

Now, those suggestions will step up after Alvarez was spotted in training for the Hammers on Tuesday.

West Ham posted a gallery of training photos on their official website, which included Alvarez joining in the session.

Given what Nuno said about Alvarez this week, it suggests there will be a role for him moving forward.

What did Nuno say about Edson Alvarez's West Ham future?

West Ham spent big to sign Arne Engels from Celtic during the summer transfer window.

Moreover, Divine Mukasa returned in on a loan deal from Manchester City, as Nuno looked to bolster his midfield ranks.

Soungoutou Magassa was also ostracised having tried to leave during the summer, but is another who is expected to be reintegrated.

Nuno was asked about Alvarez's situation prior to Wednesday's Championship clash with Lincoln City.

And the gaffer said everyone at the club is still in his thoughts moving forward.

Nuno said: "All the players are working. It's up to us to make decisions. Not all the players have played yet, but the chances will come,

"All of the players in the building are part of our plans."
