What Thomas Tuchel comments tell us about Jarrod Bowen's England chances amid more call-ups

West Ham United favourite Jarrod Bowen was never truly in contention for an England call-up this month.

The 29-year-old has represented his country at senior level on 22 previous occasions.

Bowen's most recent outing for the Three Lions came in a friendly against Japan at the end of March.

He was then left out of Thomas Tuchel's squad for the World Cup last week, despite being a regular inclusion up to that point.

Bowen was also omitted from Tuchel's first squad since that tournament, while a raft of withdrawals on Monday also failed to open the door.

And based on previous comments made by Tuchel, it is unlikely Bowen will get the nod anytime soon.

What did Thomas Tuchel previously say about Jarrod Bowen omission?

Bowen remains the most influential figure at West Ham, with his four goals and three assists in eight Championship games reflecting that.

He should not be playing in the Championship at this point in his career, but he remained at the London Stadium out of loyalty.

Unfortunately, that is going to cost him any chance of an England recall until West Ham are back in the Premier League and settled.

Speaking in May after leaving Bowen out of his squad, Tuchel said: "Does Jarrod suffer a bit from the situation at his club?

"It is difficult for him. Do Noni [Madueke] and Bukayo [Saka] profit from the situation of their club?"

Tuchel, who went on to hail Bowen's "outstanding" character, has effectively said Bowen is paying for his club's situation.

Others, like Madueke, are profiting from Arsenal being in such a strong position.

The unfortunate truth is that Bowen will not realistically now be in the England fold until this time next year at the earliest.

What are the latest changes to England squad?

Five players pulled out of the England squad on Monday.

They are Tino Livramento, Kobbie Mainoo, Cole Palmer, Marcus Rashford and Declan Rice.

Despite Palmer and Rashford dropping out, Bowen was not turned to.

In fact, no out-and-out attacking players have been as James Garner and Morgan Gibbs-White were the only two replacements.

All Bowen can do is continue racking up the goals and assists for West Ham and guide the Irons back into the big time.

He never deserved to lose his place in the England squad to begin with, but hopefully that is rectified in the not-too-distant future.
