West Ham: Jarrod Bowen will be laughing at latest England World Cup situation
West Ham's Jarrod Bowen was not selected for England's World Cup squad, but Thomas Tuchel could be regretting that now.
While the Hammers were relegated, Bowen was still one of the top performing English players in the Premier League.
Among Englishmen in the top flight, no one scored or assisted more than Bowen's combined contribution of 20 goals.
Ultimately, for Bowen and West Ham fans it was quite the snub by Tuchel.
As England now prepares for their opening game of the World Cup, the Three Lions manager could be looking back at his decision.
Tuchel could likely do with a player like Bowen amid the latest reports shared from the England camp.
Why Jarrod Bowen will laugh at latest England developments
There are not many players from an England perspective who can influence games from the right wing, such as Bowen.
However, one of those is Arsenal's Bukayo Saka. Even if Bowen was selected, Saka was always likely to start ahead of him.
The West Ham star is quite similar in his style of play to the 24-year-old, and while the decision to bring Noni Madueke was to bring differing styles and options, that could now haunt England.
Saka is a doubt for the Three Lions as he continues to deal with an Achilles' issue he has had throughout the season.
Speaking ahead of the opening game of the World Cup for England via The Standard, Saka stated: "I am feeling better than I have felt for the last few months."
However, he also admitted that he is taking a "gamble" over his fitness as he is not yet 100 per cent.
While Madueke was likely brought as a bench option, he may very well have to start for England against Croatia.
In this situation, Tuchel would likely rather have a player of Bowen's ilk who would seemlessly slot into the right-wing role and be able to perform the duties that Saka would have had.
When Bowen was told he would not be on the plane to North America, he would have been disappointed.
But, selfishly, he may be slightly amused at the situation England have found themselves in.
Could England aspirations push Bowen out of West Ham?
The question on every West Ham fans mind is on the future of their talisman.
At the age of 29, Bowen may have missed his last chance to feature for England at a World Cup.
However, he should still be in his peak years when EURO 2028 rolls around in a home tournament for England.
With West Ham's relegation, there is little time for the Hammers captain to break back into the England set-up.
Championship stars are not often called up for the national team, and that may ultimately play a key role in Bowen's future.
West Ham do want to keep the winger in E20, but you only have one career in football, and his England chanaces could prove pivotal in a decision.
