West Ham player ratings vs Millwall: 3/10 Jarrod Bowen goes into hiding, 8/10 teammate a game-changer

West Ham United drew 2-2 against Millwall in the Dockers Derby on Saturday.

In the first meeting between the two teams in 14 years, the hosts took the lead in the 16th minute through Caleb Taylor.

The Hammers did little in the first half, with their first shot coming in the 34th minute from Taty Castellanos.

Alex Neil got the better of Nuno Espirito Santo at the Den in the opening 45 minutes, with the hosts doubling their lead just before the break after another long throw.

Jarrod Bowen went into hiding as the Irons struggled to put up a fight in South East London before the final 15 minutes.

Mohamadou Kante gave the visitors a lifeline in the 74th minute and Konstantinos Mavropanos went on to score the equaliser.

Bowen's decision to remain at West Ham was admirable in the summer, but it won't matter if he doesn't give it his all.

The Englishman hasn't been anywhere near his best this season and was a passenger at the Den.

Zak Sturge had the winger's number and he was unable to provide any sort of attacking threat in the game.

Apart from Bowen's inability to contribute up front, he was also culpable for being too weak defensively, as he saw Camiel Neghli score.

It wasn't a captain's performance from the 29-year-old, who failed to lead his team when it mattered most.

Another player well below standards was Max Kilman, who has frustrated fans in E20 for a few seasons, and remains an issue for the Irons at the back.

Mohamadou Kante saves the day at The Den

Kante came on at the break for Kyle Walker-Peters as West Ham changed their shape after a poor first half.

The 20-year-old scored from around 35 yards out to get the Hammers back into the game and Mavropanos subsequently managed to give the away fans something to cheer about.

It was the French midfielder who brought impetus to the Irons' play and had several decent moments.

Whenever Kate went forward, he made something happen, and at the very least he tried to win a corner, which eventually proved the saving grace for the East London outfit.

The midfielder took one for the team in the end, bringing down Kyrell Lisbie, who was through on goal in the 89th minute.
