Mohamadou Kante slammed for 'embarrassing' himself in West Ham win vs Swansea
Mohamadou Kante was slammed for "embarrassing" himself with his actions in West Ham United's win over Swansea City.
The 21-year-old played just under 70 minutes of Saturday's contest at the Swansea.com Stadium.
Kante was superb for West Ham as he ran the show, including an assist for Divine Mukasa's 34th-minute goal.
That proved to be the only goal of the afternoon in a massive win for Nuno Espirito Santo's side in the top-of-the-table showdown.
The win moves the Hammers a point behind Swansea in second place - the first time they have been in the top two all campaign.
While Kante may have been superb, he did not receive universal acclaim.
Why was Mohamadou Kante slammed vs Swansea?
Kante was involved in a first-half moment that left the home fans fuming.
The former Paris FC player fell to the ground looking in real pain after being caught in the chest by Stephen Welsh.
Referee Josh Smith waved for play to continue, not believing it was worthy of a free-kick.
However, with Kante staying down, play did come to a close and the home fans made their anger known.
Perry Groves, commentating on the game for talkSPORT, was also not happy play stopped as he said: "Kante has tried to buy the free-kick.
"He goes down like he's jumped out of an aeroplane and his parachute has been pulled.
"The referee does brilliantly as he tells him to get up, so he knows it's not a head injury, so I don't know why the ball went out of play. That was embarrassing."
What Nuno Espirito Santo will be 'delighted' with vs Swansea
The magnitude of West Ham's sixth win of the campaign cannot be stressed enough.
The Irons could have been seven points behind Swansea with a defeat. Instead, they are within two points of the leaders.
A clean sheet is always welcome, and Groves believes Mads Hermansen's lack of action is something that will leave Nuno "delighted".
That is thanks to the work of Konstantinos Mavropanos, who was West Ham's best player, and Max Kilman in front of the United keeper.
More performances like this and West Ham will not be leaving the top two between now and the end of the season.
