How Karren Brady was proven right as Michail Antonio reveals West Ham contract dispute
Ex-West Ham United figure Karren Brady was right to be stubborn with Michail Antonio in previous contract negotiations.
The former Hammers CEO was in charge of many important discussions at the club, and fled right before
Big changes have happened at the London Stadium recently, as David Sullivan also stepped down, with Daniel Kretisnky now having the majority of control over the club.
Some would argue that the downfall started with the sacking of David Moyes, but Graham Potter's final window in charge of the Irons featured some huge calls that were controversial to say the least
One being the exit of Antonio, who did not sign a new contract after being in a freak collision that broke his leg.
The former West Ham man has been speaking about his final conversation with Brady, and the latter has actually come out looking the better of the two.
Karren Brady was right as Michail Antonio reveals West Ham contract conversation
Antonio has already taken some flak for how he's publicly handled his exit from West Ham.
Despite this, he will always be remembered as a top striker for the Hammers, and one that helped the club win the Europe Conference League not long ago.
The Jamaican international scored 83 goals in 323 appearances for the Hammers, and it's sad that his time at the club came to an end in the way it did.
However, Antonio has been speaking to FourFourTwo, and revealed the conversation that he had with Brady over him potentially staying with the club.
The 36-year-old said: "Brady told me that she’d offer me a £5,000-a-week contract, but with the under-21s, not the first team.
I said, "How can you offer £5,000 a week and tell me to play for the under-21s, when the under-21s are on more than that and I’ve been at this club for 10 years?"
"Her response was, "Well, they haven’t been in a car crash and shattered their leg." I was like, "Oof, OK…" I didn’t sign the contract."
But £5k per week translates to £20k per month. How is that a bad offer for someone who is just trying to get back to full fitness?
Nowadays, clubs are often too soft with players and hide away from telling them their true feelings.
Brady was open and honest here, and for once, many West Ham fans will actually agree with her in this particular instance.
If anything, her offer has only been further vindicated up until now.
Antonio's whereabouts proves Brady was right
Adding to the fact that Antonio had suffered a potential career-ending injury at the time, he was in terrible form before the accident occurred anyway.
The striker had scored just once in 15 games prior to the accident, and looked a player who wasn't deserving of a big contract anyway.
Antonio has only found himself one other club since leaving West Ham with Saudi Arabian side Al-Sailiya, and only managed to make four appearances, scoring no goals.
Now, he's a free agent again, which shows that Brady was actually right all along, despite her multiple errors for West Ham in the past.
