Arne Engels was pivotal for West Ham United in the first half against Bolton Wanderers.

The Belgium international started for the Hammers against Steven Schumacher's team at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on 8 September.

Having taken the lead through Jarrod Bowen, the Irons found themselves behind after Ruben Rodrigues' penalty in the 27th minute.

Then, at around the half-hour mark, Konstantinos Mavropanos scored for West Ham, but it was all about Engels.

The 23-year-old was influential in helping the East London outfit make it 2-2 before the break.

It was the former Celtic midfielder's set-piece delivery that set up the centre-back's header in BL6.

Engels has had mixed reviews at West Ham since signing in the summer.

The Belgian ace is finally showing his qualities under Nuno Espirito Santo, with a brilliant set-piece delivery at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

It was the midfielder's ball into the box that allowed Mavropanos to find the back of the net.

The Trotters' defence arguably couldn't have done anything about the ball that Engels whipped in for his teammate.

Speaking on Sky Sports Football on 8 September, co-commentator Dave Edwards said: "This goal is all about Engels. It's a fantastic delivery; world-class. He whips it in around the back.

"A low trajectory with lots of pace. It zips off the surface, but it's not an easy header for Mavropanos - an excellent finish."

West Ham have been all over the place defensively against Bolton.

The Hammers have kept just one clean sheet this season in the Championship and that isn't good enough for a team hoping to win promotion to the Premier League.

Mohamadou Kante is playing in the number 10 position against the Trotters, with Engels and Divine Mukasa behind him.

The 20-year-old French midfielder has looked out of place in the position, failing to make an impact in the final third.

Kante has also been unable to impose himself defensively in the engine room, which is something Nuno should look to change after the break.
