David Moyes’ lasting West Ham United legacy
David Moyes was somewhat of a polarising figure by the end of his time at West Ham United, though it always the vocal minority which shouts the loudest. Most Hammers supporters would acknowledge the job the experienced Scot did at the London Stadium, not least the famous Europa League Conference triumph, and the Europa League campaign that followed. Since his departure, West Ham have endured a difficult time replacing him, with Julen Lopetegui, Graham Potter, and Nuno Espirito Santo all having been at the helm. Moyes, now back in the Premier League with Everton, will always have an enduring legacy in East London.
David Moyes: Road to West Ham United
Moyes is one of the most experienced managers in Premier League history, and had a lengthy spell with Everton before taking on the Manchester United role in July 2013. Things didn’t work out at Oltd Trafford, and he endured difficult spells at Real Sociedad and Sunderland, before taking over at West Ham for the first time. He would return in December 2019 and spent a little over four years at the London Stadium.
David Moyes’ career achievements
Though some sections of the West Ham fanbase grew tired of Moyes’ pragmatic football by the end, the Hammers faithful will always be grateful for the Europa Conference League triumph in May 2023, where Jarrod Bowen’s last-minute winner downed Fiorentina in Prague. A night supporters will never forget.
